We're here to honor and preserve the stories, traditions, and culture of the Italian families who immigrated to the Monterey Peninsula and Central Coast of California more than 100 years ago.
Since 2002, the IHS has recognized notable individuals connected to the Italian community at an annual Honorees Dinner. The honorees are those whose contributions and achievements have enhanced and improved Monterey for all residents. See our past honorees here.
The IHS awards student scholarships yearly. MORE INFORMATION HERE

Future plans are to establish a museum or cultural center focusing on the contributions of our Italian-American ancestors. We are currently collecting stories for our next book: Italian Americans: "We Don't Just Fish!"
Looking for Stories
To honor and preserve the stories of the many Italian fishermen and their families whose work ethic and achievements helped to make Monterey the Sardine Capital of the World. This has to be done NOW before memories fade and photos are lost.
For the past several years, we requested stories from not only fishermen but other Italian families who have settled here and contributed to the history and culture of Monterey. The 86 stories collected will be appear in our next book: Italian Amercans: "We Don't Just Fish!" that is currently in publication.
If you would like to contribute to our website stories collection, please contact us today. Grazie!
