Nancy Ausonio HONOREE 2010


The only child of Italian immigrants, Nancy was born and raised in Monterey where she graduated from San Carlos grammar school and Monterey High School.


In 1985 Nancy helped establish the Friends of the Castroville Library, and headed the capital campaign for the new Library Project. She is a founding member and director of the Foundation for Monterey County Free Libraries, serves on the board of the North County Chamber of Commerce which sponsors the Artichoke Festival, Monterey Commercial Property Owners Association, and the Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital Foundation. She was on the Castroville Water District Board for twenty years and on the board of the Community Foundation for Monterey County for six years, and involved with the Castroville Revitalization Committee, the Rotary Club of Castroville and Our Lady of Refuge Church.


Nancy worked with her husband Andrew in founding Ausonio Construction Inc. and Ausonio Apartments, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in September.


She is still involved with the property management areas of the family business Nancy’s dedication to social and humanitarian efforts has been recognized all over the world. In March of 2006 she received the Jefferson Award for her generosity, dedication, and commitment to the community and was also recognized as an Outstanding Women in Monterey County by the Commission on the Status of Women. In September of 2007 the Association dei Lucchesi Net Mondo honored her in her parent’s native town of Lucca, Italy with the Medgalia D" Oro for her social and humanitarian efforts related to the Andy Ausonio Library and the Castroville Plaza Project.


In her free time Nancy enjoys spending as much time as possible with her three beautiful grandchildren, traveling to Castroville's sister cities in Mexico and Italy, gardening, shopping, and attending plays in San Francisco.
